A series of illustrated portraits inspired by strong women: a historical figure, a period series character, and a soul singer & musician. Each portrait feels like a window into their world, passion, history and work, telling us a story about what they represent.
Publishing
This speculative book cover was designed to draw the viewer into the moment and create a strong emotional connection with the character, conveying a vibrant and alive scene, much like the essence of Aretha herself.
Meet the Music Icon
Aretha Franklin was an American singer, songwriter and pianist. She radiated vitality and exuberance, sang with passion and soul. Honored as the "Queen of Soul", she was twice named by Rolling Stone magazine as the greatest singer of all time.
Creative Process
This illustration series was created starting by analogue colored pencil sketches followed by a watercolor base layer. At this point the drawing was scanned, digitally painted and enhanced in Procreate.
